“The only difference between a tax man and a taxidermist is that a taxidermist leaves the skin.

– Mark Twain

Whether it is high taxes, out-of-control pension benefits for city employees, corruption in high places or eminent domain abuses, the Seaside Taxpayers Association (STA) is here to help. Founded in 2003 to fight Measure Q, a countywide sales tax increase to fund a failing government-run hospital, the STA has championed axing taxes and decreasing the power of government.

STA believes the constitution was written to constrain the government, not the people. And taxation is one of the most dangerous burdens ever imposed on society.

As supreme Court Chief Justice John Marshall warned in 1819, “The power to tax involves the power to destroy.” Classical liberal theorist Frederick Bastiat mimicked the same sentiment in the 1700’s, writing: ”The state is the great fictitious entity by which everyone seeks to live at the expense of everyone else.”

Thomas Jefferson held similar beliefs, wisely cautioning that without Vigilance government would grow and liberty would decline. We must constantly be on guard and become the Jedi Knights of liberty. I hope you will join our merry band of freedom lovers in order to keep local and global government at
bay.

“There is no worse tyranny than to force a man to pay for what he does not want merely because you think It would be good for him.” – Robert Heinlein

“To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves and abhors, is sinful and tyrannical.” – Thomas Jefferson

“You can’t give the government the power to do good without also giving it the power to do bad – in fact, to do anything it wants.” – Harry Browne

“Does government waste cause high taxes? Or do high taxes cause government waste?”- Michael Cloud
